Routine Maintenance for Workstation Implements
Architectural desk tools do not require complicated preservation routines, but they do require the correct chemical boundaries. Harsh solvents strip protective oils from timber and discolor anodic oxide layers on aluminium. A disciplined quarterly maintenance cycle keeps raw materials pristine without leaving sticky chemical residues on your workspace.
Conditioning Solid Oak and Merino Wool
Organic components react to atmospheric dryness and hand grease. Treat natural materials with the following cadence:
- Oak Conditioning: Apply food-safe mineral oil or cold-pressed linseed oil every six months. Rub a thin film into the oak grain, wait twenty minutes for fiber absorption, and buff dry with a linen cloth.
- Wool Inlay Care: Natural merino wool felt contains lanolin, which repels surface dust. Never immerse felt trays in water. Lift particulate debris with a dry lint brush or a quick blast of compressed air.
- Stain Extraction: If ink or coffee contacts the felt, dab the area immediately with cold water and a mild wool detergent. Press flat with a clean paper towel; do not scrub the nap.
Sanitizing Metal Surfaces and Silicone Feet
Anodized 6063 aluminium is non-porous and naturally hygienic. Wipe metal frames with a microfiber cloth dampened with isopropyl alcohol diluted to seventy percent with distilled water. This lifts finger oils instantly without degrading the anodic coating. Wipe the moulded silicone base pads with the same cloth to clear dust buildup and restore their original benchtop traction.
